When we think of Kashmir, the first thing that comes to our Mind is "Houseboats". Staying on a Houseboat means like living in Paradise, an experience one is not likely to find anywhere else on the surface of the earth.

Houseboat provides the unique experience of living on the water in a cedar-panelled elegant bedroom, with all the conveniences of a luxury hotel. Srinagar's thousand or so houseboats are moored along sections of the Dal and Nagin Lakes and river Jhelum, each decorated fancifully and named romantically and even whimsically.

Like hotels, houseboats vary in degree of luxury and have been accordingly graded by the Department of Tourism. A luxury houseboat, like a luxury hotel has fine furniture, good carpets and modern bathroom fittings, while the 'D category' (the lowest category) of houseboats, like low-budget hotels, is spartanly furnished. Like hotels too, houseboats vary widely in their locations.

Golf in Gulmarg
Gulmarg, is not merely a mountain resort of exceptional beauty and Kashmir’s premier ski resort in the winter. It also has the highest golf course in the world. At 2,650 metres above sea level, Gulmarg Golf Club is surrounded by lush green trees, alpine flowers, snow fed streams and gentle slopes.
Golfing at Gulmarg is a unique experience. Hardly any stretch is flat. The land slopes and inclines along the course. This highest golf course in the world also boasts the longest hole in India. Unlike its other par 5s, Hole 8 plays much longer than its 610 yards because of the uphill factor. The course features not only rippling rivulets, pre-defined streams and ponds, but also herds of sheep – ruling out the need for lawn mowers and keeping the fairways in excellent condition.

The most interesting and trying hole here is the seventeenth. Although not very long, it calls for precise shots to land on the green which is situated on the edge of a cliff. From there, it is 300 feet downhill.
Gulmarg’s golf course is open between April and November, but concealed by snow the rest of the year, when its slopes are converted into mini ski runs.
